Ethiopian Airlines and the Congolese government have agreed to accelerate the process of creating Air Congo, a new airline in which the DRC state holds 51% while the Ethiopian carrier will be a shareholder that will own 49% of the company’s shares.
Mesfin Tasew reacted to this good news by stressing that “This collaboration which should be a new manifestation of the pioneering model of cooperation between Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo should take into account mutual interests”.
In this context, added the head of Ethiopian Airlines: “It was agreed to mobilize the efforts of both parties to cooperate in order to establish a mutually beneficial partnership, in the various operational and technical fields, particularly through the establishment of commercial agreements”.
Air Congo is expected to start flights within a few days, operating a fleet of two Boeing 737-800s, and its services will initially be limited to the domestic market, connecting the seven airports in the DRC.
