ShebaMiles, the Ethiopian Airlines loyalty program

Ethiopian Airlines, the largest airline in Africa and certified four-star airline by Skytrax, offers a loyalty program giving passengers access to exclusive rewards by traveling regularly on its domestic, regional and international flights.

Launched in 1999 and today has more than three million members. The name of the program refers to the Queen of Sheba of Ethiopia who showered King Solomon with gifts.

The Ethiopian carrier is excited to offer its members more ways to earn miles over the years. This frequent flyer program has partnered with several airlines and non-airline partners to create a world of services for members to earn miles. Cards and status

This loyalty program classifies its members into four different statuses: Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum (Notre Page Carte ShebaMiles).

After signing up for its loyalty program, each flight and purchase onboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight earns you miles. There are two types of Miles: Status Miles and Award Miles. These are collected in parallel, and are calculated separately.

What is a Status Mile?
This type of Mile can only be earned by flying and cannot be converted into a bonus. It allows you to gain frequent flyer status after having flown a certain number of kilometres.

Frequent flyer status can provide you with various benefits such as additional baggage allowance, access to lounges or preferential ground handling. Some airlines no longer offer traditional Status Miles.

What is a Mile-Prime?

As the name suggests, you can redeem these Miles for various bonuses. This includes flights with Ethiopian Airlines and partner airlines, online store items, and purchases from non-airline partners.
The African carrier calculates Miles in two ways. The most common is to calculate the flight distance and the booking class. The second way, the one used by Lufthansa, is based on turnover. For example, when you book with Air France KLM, you get four Miles for every euro spent.

Whether or not you fly frequently on Ethiopian Airlines planes, it is always a good idea to sign up for airline loyalty programs. In most cases, participation is free and you have no disadvantage.

Earn and collect miles daily
Each loyalty program now has different partners outside of the airline industry. You will therefore be able to accumulate and redeem Award Miles when you make purchases with Ethiopian Airlines and its partners.

The most important partners are often credit cards. You can earn Miles with every transaction. This way you can get a free flight with your daily purchases. You can also count on a wide selection of partners in other categories, including car rental companies and hotel chains. Nowadays, you don't even have to travel by plane to earn Miles.

Make purchases from the Ethiopian company with Miles
Ethiopian Airlines allows Miles to be accumulated and converted into awards. These rewards give you the chance to get your hands on nearly free flights. You have to be careful here, as you will still have to pay the taxes on your flights. On long-haul flights, these costs can go up to 500 euros. Therefore, it is recommended to redeem Miles for flights in First Class or Business Class, as the amount you will have to pay will be approximately the same as in Economy class.
